Privacy Policy
Last Updated: June 4, 2026
Peg.com LLC ("Peg," "we," "us," or "our") takes your privacy seriously. We built Peg to make returns smarter, and that means being straightforward about how we handle your information.
This Privacy Policy explains what we collect, why we collect it, and what you can do about it. It applies to everyone who uses our website, mobile app, or services, as well as the retailers who partner with us.
By using Peg, you agree to the practices described here. If you have questions, reach out anytime at support@peg.com.
1. How Peg Works and Our Role
Peg plays different roles depending on who you are and how you're using the platform.
When you interact with Peg directly to return an item, create an account, or browse our marketplace, we're the data controller, meaning we decide how and why your information is used.
When we process return information on behalf of a retailer, we act as a service provider / data processor, meaning we handle data according to the retailer's instructions. Retailers are responsible for their own privacy obligations toward their customers.
2. What We Collect
2.1 From Users (Returners and Buyers)
Information you give us directly:
When you use Peg to start a return, make a purchase on our marketplace, or create an account, we collect the information needed to make that happen. This includes your name, email address, phone number, shipping and billing address, and payment information (which is processed by third-party payment providers, not stored by Peg). We also collect your order and return details, including the reason for your return and any communications or support requests you send us.
Photos and condition data:
Peg asks you to take photos of items you're returning, typically the front, back, and packaging condition. These photos are a core part of how Peg works. We use them to assess item condition, determine the best return outcome, and provide accurate information to potential buyers if the item is routed to our marketplace. Photos are retained for the duration of the return transaction and a reasonable period after for dispute resolution and service improvement.
Information we collect automatically:
When you use our website or app, we automatically collect technical information like your IP address, browser type, device information, and how you interact with the platform (pages visited, features used, time spent). We also collect general location data, which we explain in more detail below.
Location data:
Peg uses your location to match returned items with nearby buyers and determine the most efficient return outcome. We collect general location information (city or metro area level) from your IP address or, with your permission, more precise location from your device. We do not track your real-time movements. Your location is used specifically for local buyer matching on our marketplace and for calculating shipping economics on your return.
Information from third parties:
We receive order information from retailers you've purchased from (so we can verify and process your return), and we may receive analytics data from third-party providers that helps us improve the platform.
2.2 From Retailers
Account and business information:
When a retailer partners with Peg, we collect their business name, legal entity details, contact information, Shopify store URL, authentication credentials, payment and banking information, tax identifiers, and authorized representative details.
Shopify store data:
Through our Shopify integration, we access product catalog information (names, descriptions, pricing, images), order data (including customer details necessary to process returns), inventory and shipping information, and store configuration settings. We access only the data needed to operate the return service.
Platform usage and business data:
We collect login and access logs, configuration preferences, return processing activity, support interactions, platform performance metrics, sales and transaction history, fee calculations and payments, revenue sharing data, and return performance analytics.
3. How We Use AI and Automated Decisions
Peg is an AI-powered platform. This means some of the decisions about your return are made or assisted by artificial intelligence. We want to be clear about how that works.
What Peg's AI does:
When you initiate a return, Peg's AI evaluates the item's condition (using photos you provide), the product's resale potential, shipping economics based on your location, fraud risk signals, and the retailer's return policies to determine the best outcome for your return. This might mean routing the item to the retailer, to a local buyer through our marketplace, to a secondary market partner, or recommending you keep or discard the item.
How it works:
Peg is model-agnostic, meaning we use the best available AI technology rather than building our own models from scratch. Your return data, including photos and order details, may be processed by third-party AI providers such as Anthropic and OpenAI to power these assessments. These providers are contractually required to protect your data and are prohibited from using it to train their models.
Your rights regarding automated decisions:
If a decision made by Peg's AI significantly affects you, you have the right to request a human review of that decision. Contact us at support@peg.com to make that request.
4. Cross-Retailer Profiles
If you use Peg to process returns at more than one retailer, your information carries across those experiences. This is a core part of how Peg works, and we want you to understand it.
When you return an item through Peg at Retailer A and later initiate a return at Retailer B, Peg recognizes you and uses your existing profile to make the process faster and the outcome smarter. Your return history, account details, and trust signals (like a consistent record of honest returns) follow you across retailers on the Peg platform.
What this means in practice:
Your return history across all Peg-powered retailers is aggregated into a single profile within Peg's system. This profile helps Peg make better disposition decisions, detect fraud patterns, and speed up the return process for you. Individual retailers do not see your return activity at other retailers. Peg uses the aggregated data to improve its AI decisions, but the specific details of your returns at Retailer A are not shared with Retailer B.
Your choices:
You can request deletion of your cross-retailer profile at any time by contacting support@peg.com. Doing so may mean a slower return experience the next time you use Peg, since we'll be starting fresh.

All service providers are contractually required to protect your information and use it only for the purposes we specify.
6.2 In the Course of Business
For Users:
We share information with retailers to process your return and issue your refund or store credit, with shipping providers to handle logistics, and with secondary market buyers or resale partners when your item is routed to our marketplace or recovery network.
When your item is listed on the Peg marketplace, buyers can see product photos you provided, the item's condition assessment, and the general area the item is located in (metro level, not your address). Buyers never see your name, email, or specific address.
For Retailers:
Product listings from returned items may appear on the Peg marketplace. We share limited customer data only as needed to complete return transactions. We provide aggregated, anonymized benchmarking data and return intelligence across the platform. Individual customer data from one retailer is never shared directly with another retailer.
6.3 When Required by Law
We may disclose information when required to comply with legal processes or regulations, respond to government requests, protect our rights, property, or safety, or prevent fraud or illegal activity.
6.4 In a Business Transfer
If Peg is involved in a merger, acquisition, or sale of assets, your information may be transferred as part of that transaction. We'll notify you before your information becomes subject to a different privacy policy.
7. Data Security
We protect your information with:
- Encryption in transit and at rest
- Secure authentication and role-based access controls
- Regular security assessments and monitoring
- Employee training and confidentiality agreements
- Limited access on a need-to-know basis
No system is 100% secure. We can't guarantee absolute security, but we take it seriously and continuously work to improve our protections.

8.1 Your Account
You can access, update, or delete your account information at any time through the Peg app or by contacting us. You can also deactivate your account, which will stop Peg from processing new returns on your behalf.
8.2 Communications
You can opt out of marketing emails using the unsubscribe link in any message. You can opt out of SMS messages by replying STOP. You can adjust notification preferences in your account settings. Opting out of marketing won't affect transactional messages about active returns.

- Access the personal information we hold about you
- Correct inaccurate information
- Request deletion of your data
- Restrict or object to certain processing

To exercise any of these rights, contact us at support@peg.com. We'll respond within the timeframe required by applicable law (typically 30-45 days).
9. How Long We Keep Your Information
We don't keep data longer than we need to. Here's the general framework:
Active account data is retained for as long as your account is active, plus 30 days after deactivation to allow for reactivation.
Return transaction records are retained for 3 years after the transaction completes, to support dispute resolution and comply with tax and financial reporting requirements.
Item photos are retained for 12 months after the return is fully resolved, then deleted.
Payment and billing records are retained for 7 years per tax and accounting obligations.
Platform usage logs are retained for 12 months for security and performance analysis, then aggregated or deleted.
Aggregated and de-identified data (which cannot identify you) may be retained indefinitely for analytics and platform improvement.
When data is no longer needed, it is securely deleted or anonymized.
10. Cookies and Tracking
We use cookies and similar technologies to authenticate you and keep you logged in, remember your preferences and settings, understand how people use the platform, and improve performance and reliability.
Your choices: You can control cookies through your browser settings. Most browsers let you block or delete cookies, though doing so may affect how the platform works for you.
Do Not Track and Global Privacy Control: We honor Global Privacy Control (GPC) signals where required by law. If your browser sends a GPC signal, we will treat it as a request to opt out of any applicable data sharing.
11. International Data Transfers
Your information may be transferred to and processed in the United States or other countries where our service providers operate.
When we transfer data internationally, we use appropriate safeguards including standard contractual clauses and other lawful transfer mechanisms to ensure your information receives equivalent protection.
12. Your State Privacy Rights (United States)

We process your data based on contract performance (processing your returns), legal obligations, legitimate interests (improving our platform, preventing fraud), and consent where applicable.
For GDPR-related inquiries, contact support@peg.com.
14. Retailer-Specific: Shopify Integration
When a retailer installs the Peg Shopify app, they authorize us to access the store data necessary to operate the return service. This includes product, order, customer, and inventory data.
We use this data to process returns, sync product and order information, generate reports and analytics for the retailer, and power Peg's AI decision engine.
Our access and use of Shopify data complies with Shopify's API Terms of Service and Partner Program Agreement. We access only the scopes required for our functionality and do not use Shopify data for purposes unrelated to providing the Peg service.
15. Children's Privacy
Peg is not intended for anyone under 13 (or under 16 in jurisdictions where that threshold applies). We do not knowingly collect personal information from children. If we learn that we have, we'll delete it promptly. If you believe a child has provided us with personal information, please contact us at support@peg.com.
16. Third-Party Links
Our platform may contain links to third-party websites or services. This Privacy Policy doesn't apply to those services, and we're not responsible for their privacy practices. We encourage you to review their policies before providing any information.
17. Changes to This Policy
We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. When we make material changes, we'll let you know by updating the date at the top of this page, sending you an email notification, and providing an in-app notice where appropriate.
Your continued use of Peg after changes take effect means you accept the updated policy. If you disagree with a change, you can deactivate your account at any time.
